Great Lifting Cage- Best to Buy with Lat Attachment August 12, 2010 Alberto A. Borges (Oakton, VA, USA) I'm very pleased with this lifting cage- it was easy to put together with my son and is sturdy and reliable. I purchased it together with a lat bar which is incredible. You can't go wrong buying this workout rack.
Just What I've Been Looking For! August 11, 2010 Bryan (Texas, USA) This power rack is a good size and would easily fit in a room with a 7 ft. ceiling; I have a standard 8 ft. ceiling so clearance is no problem at all. The whole thing takes up less than a 4x4 space. As other reviewers have mentioned, the rack arrives in three fairly large heavy boxes. One box is longer than the others -- it's just under 7 feet. I was able to assemble the whole thing, by myself, in about 45 minutes, not including the time I spent going to Home Depot after I realized that I needed a larger socket and wrench. The good news is that all the bolts are the same diameter but not the same length. I recommend getting a 3\4" socket and a good ratchet along with a 3\4" wrench. The instructions are kind of vague as far as deciphering two sets of bolt lengths, but it shouldn't be hard to figure out. The only instructions to follow is a diagram, but it's easy to reference.
The quality and durablity of this rack is very good. It's strong and sturdy. It does sway a little when using the pull-up bar if you don't have any weights on the barbell, but I don't fear it will ever tip over on me. Speaking of barbell, you will need one no shorter than 7 ft. -- standard or olympic will work. The safety bars are strong and heavy so they can handle a lot weight when you no longer can, so it's ok to safely push yourself to failure if you desire. The bar catches are strong and heavy as well. With that said, I wouldn't recommend weight over 300 lbs. The pins used to hold the safety bars and the bar catches seem almost too small, but they do hold. Also, as some reviewers have mentioned, the paint does chip off easily from the bar catches and safety bars, but to me that's just purely aesthetic and not at all a big deal. The company does throw in a small bottle of paint -- which is useless in my opinion. Also, be careful because the knurled pull-up bar can easily tear your hands up; tennis grip tape or gloves can remedy that.
All-in-all this power rack has been a great addition to my home gym. I got rid of my old Gold's Gym weight bench and bought this power rack and a standalone weight bench instead. I wanted to start doing more compound exercises without having to worry about needing a spotter; this power rack does that beautifully! I highly recommend this for a home gym to those who don't intend on lifting over 300 lbs. For the price, this is a great piece of exercise equipment!
Item is great, shipping was HORRIBLE July 28, 2010 Jamie DP (New Jersey) We're very pleased with the squat cage, but the shipper was a nightmare. They said they would call about 2 hours before the cage was to be delivered so someone could be there (it comes in three fairly large boxes). I waited all morning and never got a call. Then I looked outside -- we were having a severe thunderstorm with lots wind and rain -- and saw the three boxes sitting in the driveway, soaking wet. Ceva Logistics was the shipper. I'd be very happy if the company didn't use them anymore.
Great rack for the money July 11, 2010 E. Ellenbrook (Detroit, Michigan) I purchased this rack looking to get rid of the gym membership and work out at home in order to save time and money. Well I regret literally none of it. The thing was insanely easy to put together and seems to be very sturdy. There is some movement when I do pull ups on the bar but if you throw 135 on the safeties at a low setting the thing is as sturdy as can be. If you're looking for an inexpensive rack to use at home this is the one for you. The only two things that I don't like are:
The knurling on the chin up bar KILLS my hands and I have crazy callouses already so be prepared for pain or wear some gloves.
As mentioned in a previous review, the pain scrapes off every time you slide the safeties in and out so it was pretty useless to have on since it just means it's more of a mess to clean up.
Satisfied customer May 30, 2010 James Love I received the power rack two days ago. Put it together yesterday in about an hour and a half with a socket and crescent wrench. All the parts were there. One thing I suggest is to separate the four types of bolts first and be aware of where the washers go. The blown up pic is accurate but is a little difficult to decipher. No instructions but still manageable.
I used it today on my first workout. It is really a godsend when it comes to doing squats. Before with just a bench, I had to wrestle the weight over my head and onto my shoulders, which took a lot of the energy away from doing the actual squats. With the rack, just load up the barbell and put the safety bar in place. All in all, it made my workout much faster and more efficient. No more fear about getting stuck under a barbell when you are failing on the last rep on the bench press. I put some gray pipe insulation on the safety bars to save the paint and avoid any clanging. If you are serious about training at home, this is a great investment. J. Love , Midland,Tx.
