Great Buy September 5, 2010 Robert C. Mustain (Afghanistan) These dumbells are excellent. The quality destroys the older versions that had a tendency to fall apart, also, you get much more weight. If your looking for cost effectiveness, you can buy a full set of cheap and indestructible weights for about the same price (god help you on shipping, though). For the rest of us, I was happy to spend about 80$ more than it would have cost me if I bought a full set of dumbells locally, just so I could save a ton on space. The one caveat, of course, is that they are 90 lb. If your using an aerobic/weight combo program like crossfit, your not going to spend a whole lot of time with the higher half of the weight. Also, the excess is long and I'm not so sure I would like to swing these puppies around the room. Get two or three kettlebells if your doing something like that, they take less space, and your looking at around 60-70$. If your lifting for mass, eventually you are going to go way beyond these little guys. One thing that can delay your purchase of even bigger weights is to get resistance bands and attach them to the dumbells, they will accelerate your workout and make these a viable part of your home gym for a lot longer. Currently, using a set of 20lb resistance bands for these on a flat bench, it feels like so much more, because the resistance gets stronger as your rep progresses, I don't see getting new dumbells for a while now with a set of 10lb all the way to 40lb resistance bands. The point is this - using this set of dumbells with resistance bands, a single adjustable bench (decline, falt, incline), and some loud music playing in your garage, you have a truly complete home gym that you will actually go to for about 700$ and you can still park your car in the garage. Use the internet (sites like [...]) for some new and creative lifts - for free.
The best all-in-one dumbbell system I have used August 21, 2010 Nate Lowrie 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have had a pair of the SelectTech 1090's plus the stand for about 2 months now. I use them at home as part of my home gym. If you want to lift at home but don't have the space, you can do complete workouts almost exclusively with the dumbbells. The 10 to 90 pound range makes it ideal for everything from flys to dumbbell bench presses for most folks. They are a lot bulkier at lower weights than a hex head or removable plate bar, but they also don't take up a tremendous amount of space and don't cost a lot compared to buying single weight dumbbells. If you use them a lot, they are well worth the price.
Don't buy just one August 20, 2010 lieu2004 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is only one dumbbell. I needed two. I know I'm an idiot but make sure you buy two.
Great Dumbbell August 7, 2010 CYMM 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
My husband and I ordered two of these dumbbells about 6 months ago. We are very pleased with these dumbbells. It's great to be able to adjust it to the desired weight for both of us. The only reason I am giving it a 4 star instead of 5 is because the base is plastic, and ours is cracked. I think for the price they could do a bit better than the plastic base it comes with.
Good Bang for the Buck. July 24, 2010 Chance 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This one dumbell replaces a full set. The only downside is that it is very large. But it is easily overcome. I have had no problems with it. Just remember not to drop it.
